Dr David Russell

BMedSci (1st hons) MBBS FRACP FCSANZ

Dr David Russell is a cardiologist specialising in multi-modality cardiac imaging. He completed his medical degree at the University of Tasmania, and his specialist training at the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Austin Hospital (Melbourne). Further to his training, he has undertaken a cardiac MRI fellowship at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (London), and an advanced echocardiology fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne).
Dr David Russell has held a staff specialist cardiology appointment at the Royal Hobart Hospital since June 2018 where he has an active role in teaching cardiac sonographers and cardiology registrars. He is the local principal investigator for international cardiac amyloid trials
Dr David Russell has expertise in all aspects of adult cardiology, including: the diagnosis and management valvular disease, ischaemic heart disease, and heart failure. His special interests include 3D echocardiography, aortic and mitral valve disorders, and infiltrative cardiomyopathies.
Outside of work David enjoys running, wine tasting, spending time with his two adorable chihuahuas, and boasting the self-imposed title of “North Hobart’s best amateur breakfast chef”.

Dr Andrew Black

BMedSci (Hons), MBBS (Hons), FRACP
Dr Black completed cardiology training in Melbourne and Hobart, prior to undertaking an interventional fellowship at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, Alberta, Canada. He returned to Tasmania in 2013 to work as a staff cardiologist at the Royal Hobart Hospital. His main research interests relate to the prevention of cardiovascular disease within the Tasmanian community.

Dr Nathan Dwyer

BMedSci (Hons), MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACP
Nathan has clinical interests in the management of coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention, and pulmonary hypertension. Graduating from the University of Tasmania in 2000, he completed his specialty cardiology training at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 2007. He was awarded his PhD in 2010 by researching pulmonary blood flow before undertaking 2 years of subspecialty training in coronary intervention and clinical research at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, Calgary, Canada. Nathan is a staff cardiologist at the Royal Hobart Hospital with teaching responsibilities and manages the Tasmanian Pulmonary Hypertension Service.

Ciaran Vandenberg

Certified Sonographer

Ciaran is an accredited cardiac sonographer with the ASAR (Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry) and is proficient in all modalities of echocardiography, in addition to ECG and exercise testing.
Ciaran is also a division one registered nurse with a specialty focus in infectious diseases and scout/scrub nursing.
In his free time Ciaran likes trying to convince his greyhound to get off the couch and work in the garden with him.

Hilda Yang

Certified Sonographer

Hilda has a background in medical science and has been a certified cardiac sonographer with the ASAR (Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry) since 2013 and ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) since 2003.
Hilda has accumulated over twenty-five years’ clinical experience as a cardiac sonographer in Singapore and Australia.
Hilda’s passion is using her professional knowledge and skills to provide quality echocardiographic services to the local communities.

Eswar Sivaraj

Certified Sonographer

Eswar completed his cardiac physiology training in the United Kingdom and has been working in the field since 2002. He is highly experienced in adult and paediatric echocardiography. He has worked on several cardiovascular research projects in conjunction with the Menzies Research Institute.
Eswar moved to Tasmania with his family, for the lovely Tasmanian lifestyle.

Christine

Practice Manager

Christine has a background in Nursing and Education, she completed her Masters Degree in 2020 with a focus on leadership and wellbeing. Christine is passionate about facilitating the delivery of the quality cardiac care provided by the Cardiology Tasmania team.

In her spare time, Christine enjoys bushwalking, kayaking and spending time with her wonderful family.
